dh.82a tiger moth s-15 flight school (Matchbox 1/32)

In March 1933, the Army Air Force received 5 pcs. DH.82 Tiger Moth for use at the flight school, which at the time was located at Lundtofte airfield near Lyngby. Already the following year, the stock was expanded with seven new aircraft of the slightly improved version DH.82A, as a replacement for the old DH.60 Moth, which was also scrapped at the same time. The new aircraft were given the numbers S-6 to S-12 and were delivered 1 Kastrup on 24/3 1934. As a replacement for crashed aircraft, three more machines were purchased, S-13 1 1935, S-14 in 1936 and S-15 in 1937. In 1938, S-15 was loaned to Count Eigil Knuth’s and editor Ebbe Munch’s expedition to Northeast Greenland, and in this connection the aircraft was to be equipped with pontoons.

As with all other Danish military aircraft, April 9, 1940 marked a halt to further flight, and all 12 remaining Tiger Moths were stored until further notice. The fate of most aircraft is now unknown, except for S-15, it was sold to Sweden by the Germans in December 1943 and received the civil registration SE-ANK on 29/2 1944. The plane crashed on 8/9 1946 at Halmstad, where it burned out, which also put an end to attempts to get it returned to Denmark.
